The Burnet High School volleyball team beat Lago Vista 25-19, 25-14, 25-8 Sept. 22 in the District 24-4A opener for both teams after ending its predistrict schedule with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-12 victory against Brownwood Sept. 19.

“We are proud of all of our girls and how hard they work,” head coach Crystal Shipley said.

The week leading up to facing Lago Vista had extra activities for the Lady Dawgs, she noted, because of homecoming. In addition, the volleyball program honored teachers before facing Brownwood, and players asked educators who make a positive impact on them to attend the matches.

“All of our athletes choose a teacher to honor and presented them with a gift at the games,” Shipley said. “It is so awesome to see our girls show some love to the champion teachers in their lives.”

The coach called this week rivalry week. Burnet takes a road trip to Lampasas Tuesday, Sept. 26, and welcomes Marble Falls to The Doghouse Friday, Sept. 29. Since the football program has a bye this week, the subvarsities will take the court in both matches at 5 p.m. with varsity following at 6 p.m.

“We hope you can come out and support them this coming week as we face two big rivals,” Shipley said.
